Summary: Too much paper work can lead to uncomfortable nights...
Paperwork. Lots and lots of paperwork. There was so much paperwork piled up on his desk that Sheppard thought he might literally be buried alive if there happened to be a paperwork avalanche. It was a genuine concern.
He always tried to make things as uneventful as possible so as not to incur the wrath of reports but alas, his efforts often came to nothing.
He was actually wishing for some sort of crisis to come up and threaten the well-being of Atlantis so that he could put this off, this is how bored he was.
“Sheppard?” Ahh Rodney, at least he could make things less dull.
“Over here” Sheppard called. He heard the scientist takes several footsteps, stop, take some more footsteps and then walk into a table.
“Ow. Where is here exactly?” McKay asked, now sounding more than a little disgruntled.
“Past paperwork mountain and just next to the stationary cupboard.”
A few seconds later McKay came into sight, frowning.
“You need to clean this place up” he announced sternly. “I couldn’t even see you over all this clutter.”
“Well what does it look like I’m trying to do now?” McKay frowned and moved around the desk to lean over Sheppard’s shoulder in order to get a better look at the paperwork he was doing.
“It looks like you’re wasting time...” he mused. “I like the little drawing of you in the top hat though.”
“Thanks” Sheppard muttered, re-thinking his whole ‘happy to see McKay’ theory. “Is there a reason you’re here, other than to point out the lack of work I’m getting done?”
“Not really” McKay admitted nonchalantly, leaning back on the desk next to Sheppard’s chair. “I was just wondering if you’d be coming to bed any time soon.” Sheppard raised his eyebrows.
“Eager are we?”
“Well” the scientist folded his arms. “It’s just that I’ve been working late nights for ages I thought the one night I get off at a reasonable time you might want to join me. But if you have too much paperwork to do you know I totally understand.”
Sheppard stayed silent for a second. He really needed to get this paperwork done. Like seriously. But at the same time, an early night with Rodney did seem like a good idea...for obvious reasons.
“I need to get this work done Rodney” he said in an almost pleading tone. It was pitiful really. McKay smirked.
“Well then, I guess I’ll ju-”
“Let me finish” Sheppard interrupted. “I need to get this work done” he said again. “If I leave this office I’ll probably never return. So, how about we stay here?”
“You’re serious?” McKay asked sceptically. “And what exactly do you propose we do in here?” Sheppard shrugged.
“Same thing we’d be doing anywhere else at this time of night, only here” he stood up from his chair and carelessly brushed all the documents from the desk onto the floor, “we have a desk.” He waggled his eyebrows in that comically suggestive way that he only used when he was totally seriously about something.
“A desk? Huh. This could be interesting.”
He was right of course. It did prove to be interesting although unfortunately it was also extremely uncomfortable which is why they had vowed never to do it again.
McKay had woken up with a pain in his neck and back and came to the realisation that they had fallen asleep on said desk and, at some point during the night; he had rolled off it and landed on the cold tile floor. Really not the ideal sleeping place.
Sheppard had managed to stay on the desk but didn’t really fair much better. That particular piece of furniture really wasn’t made to harbour a fully grown man for an entire night after all.
So any from then on they vowed only to use a bed for their particular brand of midnight mission- and by that I mean missions of the sweaty, pleasure-filled stamina kind of course.
Any night McKay actually managed to pry himself away from the lab before the wee hours of the morning Sheppard would join him in the bedroom.
None of the paperwork ever got done. Not that either of them really noticed...
a/n: First step into Stargate fiction -is excited-. This was actually written as a bribe to get my friend to do her homework and it worked so yey ^^;;. It's a little bit crappy but I hope it'll do for my first stab at mcshepness...
Anyways, hope you liked~~~
